Play Fool.
With its dark winter months and frequent what we call “boring weather” – the type of weather when you’re not bothered spending more time outside than you have to; Icelanders have a rich tradition of indoors entertainment. Board games like chess, ludo, trivia and card games like bridge have always been popular and every household has a cabinet stacked with its favourite games.
Even though today’s outlook is rather pleasing.
It’s no guaranty for what tomorrow will bring.
The favourite game of my family and friends is called “fábjáni” (pronounced faw-biani), which translates to idiot, imbecile or simply fool – my preferred translation.
In a round of fool the other day the idea was tossed up that it would be handy to have an App to keep the score. After a brief, unsuccessful look on the App Store, I immediately saw an opportunity. Something to keep the fingers in practice until my Chinese E1 App user base gets in touch with requests for enhancements.
Keeping a score for card game doesn’t sound like an exiting venture into the world of App Games, nor remotely competitive. But as the Icelandic saying goes “Mjór er mikils vísir” (I’m not going to try phonetics on this), which translates directly to “thin has great potentials”; it’s a good advice to start small.
After yesterday’s UAT by my parents, I’ve just packed this up and now waiting for approval from the good people of Apple and Google.
Those who can’t wait for the App can run the UAT version on:
